Ethanol - Renewable Biofuel as an Alternative Vehicle Fuel
Ethanol is a clean-burning fuel with superior performance characteristics. It burns cleaner than gasoline, is renewable, environmentally safe, and made here in America – that means more jobs for Americans, a stronger economy, and a more secure energy supply!
E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) is used in alternate-fuel vehicles called Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) which are designed to run on more than one fuel. Because the U.S. imports over half of its oil, filling up FFVs with E85 can reduce our need for foreign oil and help our country reach energy independence. There are currently over 8.5 million Flex Fuel Vehicles on the road in the United States. You may be driving one without realizing it!
Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors have committed to building 50% of their vehicles as FFVs by 2012. To find out if your vehicle is a Flex Flue Vehicle, click here!
